Acrylic Pouring

I have been wanting to try this for some time and always sort of thought of it being a waste of paint so I have been putting it off. I had a bunch of cheap Walmart paints left over and thought I would give it a try. Now, I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to add water so, don’t take this as instructions on how to do it. I honestly didn’t bother to look up what you’re supposed to mix in with the paints, so if you do it properly you’ll likely have better results.

I thought it would be neat to record a short video on how I got these “marvelous” results. Now, I know I said this isn’t supposed to be instruction on how to do acrylic pouring but you can just use cheap acrylic paints, thin it down with a small amount of water (I used water and acrylic gloss medium). Good acrylic paints are rather expensive and acrylic pouring uses a lot of paint.

I think it turned out great! I’ve always wanted to try pouring paint, but never have.

Tipper, you should give it a try. If you get the cheaper acrylic paints from walmart and have 4-6 containers (one for each color). I cut water bottles in half in my case. You need those to thin out each color, then in another container pour in each color in whatever order you like. Then slowly pour that out onto a canvas then tilt it around until the paint covers the whole thing. You will (as shown) get messy…probably do it outside. I do think they sell paints for pouring but why bother with all that to just try it out. The more consistent in thickness when you mix the better. Give it a try and let me know how it turns out!
